Where Everybody Knows Your Name

So what are your favorite TV sitcoms of all-time. According to screenjunkies.com, the 10 longest running television sitcoms of all time are as follows:

10 - King of the Hill (1997-2009)

9 - Married with Children (1987-1997)

8 - Frasier (1993-2004)

7 - Cheers (1982-1993)

6 - The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971)

5 - The Donna Reed Show (1958--1966)

4 - The Danny Thomas Show (1953-1964)

3 - My Three Sons (1960-1972)

2 - The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952-1966)

1 - The Simpsons (since 1987)

To be honest, none of these rank as my favorite TV sitcoms of all-time, but one of them is my pick for best theme song of any TV sitcom of all-time. Its words go like this:

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.

Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go

Where everybody knows your name,

and they're always glad you came.

You wanna be where you can see,

our troubles are all the same

You wanna be where everybody knows

Your name.

You wanna go where people know,

people are all the same,

You wanna go where everybody knows

your name.

This, of course, is the theme song to Cheers. It was a show about a place where losers like Sam (the washed out bartender); Woody (the male airhead); Carla (the bitter barmaid); Frasier (the psychotic psychiatrist); Cliff (the nerdy postman); and Norm (the loser of all losers) found acceptance. Cheers was a place where people knew these loser's names and they were always glad they came (remember what happened every time Norm walked into the bar..."NORM!"). And where was that place? It was a bar!

I wonder, why can't that place be the church? After all, we serve the best drink in town - the living water of Jesus Christ. And according to Jesus in John Chapter 4, once you drink from that tap you will never thirst again!

By the way, I've heard of Danny Thomas, but who is Donna Reed?

And just to add, if we all are honest, we are all in the very same boat of losers...Without Christ we would be nothing and it's when we get a dose of the reality of grace that we have been given, do we show others that grace. There's just no room for any of us to think anyone is better than the other. We are all losers bought and redeemed by the blood of our savior and He is the only reason I am anything at all.
