Authority over my ghost

So are ghosts real? I would have to say, “Yes, they are.” They are demons whose job it is to deceive and to cause fear. But as Christians, do we need to fear ghosts? The answer is an emphatic, “No!” Follow this Scriptural path with me.

Colossians 2:15 teaches that through the death of Jesus, Satan was disarmed…“When he had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

After His death and resurrection, Jesus declared that all authority had been given to him in heaven and on earth…Matthew 18:18 says, “And Jesus came up and spoke to them saying, ‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.’”

Paul teaches that when Christ ascended back to heaven He took His seat far above all demonic power. This is a seat of authority. In other words, Jesus’ authority is far above all Satanic and demonic authority. His feet dangle over them. Ephesians 1:19-20 says, “These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”

Paul goes on to teach that when we trusted Christ to be our Savior, positionally we were seated with Christ in the heavenlies. Ephesians 2:4-6 says, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ…and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Where is Christ seated? Far above all demonic powers. So what seat of authority do we have? The same one. Through the authority of Christ we have His authority as children of God over all demonic powers.

As a result, when we submit to God and resist the devil, he must flee. James 4:7-8 tells us clearly, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” The fact that we can take authority over Satan and his cohort of demons is based fully on truth. We don’t need to even try to out power Satan or his demons. In fact, we don’t even want to try to do that. Our struggle is not a power struggle, it is a truth struggle. We don’t out "power" Satan, we out "truth" him.

When we know who we are in Christ and when we understand the authority we have in Him, we have no reason to fear ghosts (demons). As believers, we are seated with Christ and we carry His badge of authority. For the first 25 years of my life I lived in fear due to these nightly visitations that I have written of over these last few blog entries. Today I am free. But on a regular basis I meet people of all ages with similar experiences. If you would like more information or if you may be experiencing something similar, I encourage you to read Neil Anderson’s book, Bondage Breaker. It sure helped me!
